Orlando, Florida Rose Event 24.10.2012

A group of student Muslims in Orlando, Florida,  had their own rose event on the 24th of October.  Here’s what one of their organizers wrote about their event:

“Our first event, “Tribute to Peace: Roses for the Prophet (s)” was an amazing success Alhamdilillah! We had roses and flyers being passed out throughout the event. The student body seemed to really appreciate our motives and our approach in portraying our Holy Prophet. That being said, we had people asking our members questions and we even received a few “thumbs up” for what we were doing. Multiple interviews were made on people’s perception of Islam and the Prophet prior to this event and their view now, after reading the various quotes by the Prophet (pbuh) and by credible figures in history. All in all, the event was enjoyed by both the members and student body. We would like to thank everyone who took part in this project; may Allah (swt) reward you in this world and the hereafter.”

London, UK Second Rose Event 27.10.12

What is Islam? The answer to this question is frequently surrounded by negative stigma. The True Message of the Prophet event seeks to show people the true picture of Islam, not the ‘Islam’ depicted by the media, nor the minority who give it a bad name.

On the 27th of October, which coincides with the holy celebration of Eid, hard- working volunteers distributed approximately 4000 white roses with hand tied messages on them, portraying the nature of the holy prophet of Islam and revealing why he is so highly revered. The white colour of the roses represent peace, purity and kindness, all attributes associated with Prophet Muhammad.

The volunteers have been working hard over the last few weeks to gather donations to buy these roses, to produce the messages on the roses and subsequently hand tying them to each rose. These roses were then transported by many different cars to High Street Kensington. Despite the effort, these volunteers are happy to do this as a form of peaceful communication to the non-muslim public, to promote understanding and to break down any misconceptions about the religion of Islam.

This event not only took place in London, but has being replicated in 27 other cities around the world, truly representing the open nature and welcoming attitude of the Prophet, characteristics which all Muslims hope to adopt.

Events like these aim to build bridges and help create dialogue between the different groups in society, and they help highlight the advantages of diversity. Many Muslims are proactive members of British society, ranging from doctors, to lawyers, to media personalities and it is this integration into society and tolerance that we should all achieve.

One hopes that events like The True Message of the Prophet event will create a chain reaction for many events like these to enable both Muslims and non-Muslims alike to be more open, kind and tolerant towards each other.

Birmingham,UK Second Rose Event 20.10.12

A group of Muslims in Birmingham, UK,  had their own rose event on the 20th of October. This was the second rose event to take place in Birmingham.  Here’s what one of their volunteers wrote about their event:

“In the name of Allah, The most gracious, The most merciful

“And we have not sent you [O Muhammad] accept as a mercy to the worlds.” – The Holy Quran (21:107)

On Saturday the 20th of October in 2012, a group of twenty-five young Muslim boys and girls held a second Rose Event in Birmingham City Centre, UK. We distributed five hundred white roses to educate both Muslims and non-Muslims about Prophet Muhammad’s noble character and the true message that he came with.

Following the recent attacks on Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him in the media, it was our responsibility to show the world what Islam truly stands for. The Quran (the last Holy Book) was revealed to Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him through angel Gabriel 1434 years ago. In this Holy Book, the One and Only Almighty Creator of the Universe speaks to us directly and tells us that in order to become righteous believers we must believe in Him and associate no other partners to Him, we must purify our hearts from all evil, clear our intentions and pursue righteous deeds through faith and good character. He, Almighty, chose prophet Muhammad peace be upon him to deliver the message of Islam (Peace and submission to the One and Only God) because he had a very noble character; even before Islam he was a respected and a humble man known by people as ‘the honest’ and ‘trusted one’. He delivered the message of Islam exactly as God Almighty delivered it to him through the Quran and he taught us that the essence of faith in God is by spreading peace, love and respect.

“And indeed you [O Muhammad] are of a great moral character.” – The Holy Quran (68: 4)

As young Muslim boys and girls, we felt that organising this peaceful event has brought us together and united us as one. It is through this event that our love for prophet Muhammad peace be upon has grew more than ever and through organising this event we have come to appreciate the hardships and difficulties he faced in order to deliver this pure and perfect message that we have in hand today.

“The world much needs a man with Muhammad’s bright thinking. If a man like Muhammad were to assume the rule of modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems and bring peace and happiness to it.” – Sire George Bernard Shaw (Irish playwright and a co-founder of the London School of Economics)

The feedback we had from both Muslims and non-Muslims was very positive and many took great interest in what the tags read and wanted to find out more.
“Religion of Muhammad will spread throughout the world, as it is in conformity with mind and wisdom.” – Leo Tolstoy (Russian writer)”

Birmingham,UK Rose Event 13.10.12

A group of Muslims in Birmingham, UK,  had their own rose event on the 13th of October. Here’s their story:

“Due to the recent attacks on Islam and our Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon Him. 30 young British Muslims decided to hold an event in which we demonstrated the true message of Islam, which is one of love, peace and harmony. We decided on giving 1000 roses out to non Muslims and Muslims with a short introduction of the Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon Him. The event took place in the heart of Birmingham City Centre UK on Saturday 13th October 2012.

The reason behind us doing this event was to clear any misconceptions that have been created in the past in relation to Muslims. We aim to build bridges and bring together both Muslims and non-Muslims in a peace and loving manner, in hope that all communities can learn and respect each other. Our main aim is to create a loving and peaceful atmosphere between the Muslims and non-Muslims.The whole message of Islam can be summed up in the following phrase by a Muslim Sufi and Scholar Mevlana Rumi: “Love is our mother, and the way of our Prophet Peace be upon Him”

We received a fantastic response from all. We received countless messages from non Muslims and Muslims congratulating us and showing their support. We aim to take this all across the UK spreading the message of love and mercy. We look forward to expanding and spreading the true message of Islam.”

Leeds, UK Rose Event 07.10.12

A group of Muslims in Leeds, UK,  had their own rose event on the 7th of September. Here’s what one of their youngest volunteers wrote about their event:
“On the 7th of October 10 volunteers decided to spread a positive message on our prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by giving out 500 Roses which had a quote or a message about or from Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to people around Leeds town center.
We did this because the media has given a wrong message to people all around the world about Islam and our Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). So instead of a violent protest we tried to show people in a peaceful and mannered way the truth about our Prophet.
Many people asked us about what we were doing and they all agreed that this was the best way to get the message across.”

Auckland, New Zealand Rose Event 10.10.12

A group of young Muslims in Auckland, New Zealand,  their own rose event on the 10th of September. Here’s what they wrote about their event:

“There has been recently an increase of attacks against the belief of Islam and even more ferocious attacks that targeted the personality of prophet Muhammad himself.  Such attacks mostly came from extremist who expressed their own views about Islam and/or the prophet. Unsurprisingly, those views were strongly influenced by prejudice and deep hatred toward Islam as a religion. Almost all Muslims worldwide find those views, very erroneous, unfounded, and in many cases purposefully distorted. Unfortunately, these views and opinions continuously find large appeal and popularity amongst worldwide media, backed up usually by the ‘Freedom of Speech’ principle, even while they hold ‘targeted hatred’ messages and promote violence instead of peace and love.

Those attacks on the prophet have resulted in mass rallies in many countries where some unfortunately has turned out violent and in two places, even has led to killings. Needless to say, violence and killings of innocent people is absolutely in stark contradiction to Islam’s principles and those violent events have widely been condemned across the Muslim world. People behind those killings and violence were by all means ignorant and fanatics.

God (Allah) says in Holy Quran:  “And We have not sent you (O Muhammad) except as a mercy to mankind”, (The Prophets, chapter 21, Verse 107).

In another verse, “O mankind! We created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that you may know and honour each other (not that you should despise one another). Indeed the most honourable of you in the sight of God is the most righteous”, (Chapter 49, Verse 13).

In an act to counteract those attacks and biased views in a more civilized and friendly way that more reflects the true message of the prophet to mankind, a group of Muslims in Auckland City have organized a campaign under the name “Muhammad! Messenger of Peace” that involves distributing roses with brief different messages attached to them. The messages are selected sayings from the prophet himself that showed the love, peace, and mercy of his divine message as well as his humble, and loving personality.”
