A group of young Muslims in Auckland, New Zealand, their own rose event on the 10th of September. Here’s what they wrote about their event:
“There has been recently an increase of attacks against the belief of Islam and even more ferocious attacks that targeted the personality of prophet Muhammad himself. Such attacks mostly came from extremist who expressed their own views about Islam and/or the prophet. Unsurprisingly, those views were strongly influenced by prejudice and deep hatred toward Islam as a religion. Almost all Muslims worldwide find those views, very erroneous, unfounded, and in many cases purposefully distorted. Unfortunately, these views and opinions continuously find large appeal and popularity amongst worldwide media, backed up usually by the ‘Freedom of Speech’ principle, even while they hold ‘targeted hatred’ messages and promote violence instead of peace and love.
Those attacks on the prophet have resulted in mass rallies in many countries where some unfortunately has turned out violent and in two places, even has led to killings. Needless to say, violence and killings of innocent people is absolutely in stark contradiction to Islam’s principles and those violent events have widely been condemned across the Muslim world. People behind those killings and violence were by all means ignorant and fanatics.
God (Allah) says in Holy Quran: “And We have not sent you (O Muhammad) except as a mercy to mankind”, (The Prophets, chapter 21, Verse 107).
In another verse, “O mankind! We created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that you may know and honour each other (not that you should despise one another). Indeed the most honourable of you in the sight of God is the most righteous”, (Chapter 49, Verse 13).
In an act to counteract those attacks and biased views in a more civilized and friendly way that more reflects the true message of the prophet to mankind, a group of Muslims in Auckland City have organized a campaign under the name “Muhammad! Messenger of Peace” that involves distributing roses with brief different messages attached to them. The messages are selected sayings from the prophet himself that showed the love, peace, and mercy of his divine message as well as his humble, and loving personality.”
